UNIONE FABBRICHE MOSTARDA MANTOVANA:
FROM ITS ORIGINS TO THE PRESENT DAY

In the town of Viadana in 1890, the “Unione Fabbrica” (“Factory Union”) was founded by a group of grocers. They produced and sold a range of items which definitely included mostarda, soap and the traditional Italian sweet torrone, and probably featured candles as well.
In May 1913 it became the “Unione Fabbrica Mostarda Mantovana” (“Mantuan Mostarda Factory Union”), a company owned by four gentlemen from Viadana.
In those days, in Viadana it was sufficient to say “the factory” and everyone knew where you meant, as it was the only one in the whole area.
The production period lasted from March to November and the workers were taken on for the season.
The products were mostly sold in Northern Italy and the Swiss Canton of Ticino. After a series of complications, in 1957 the factory closed and the company was officially wound up.
To ensure that the history of this mostarda factory was not lost in the mists of time, our company has decided to revive the brand fifty years after the original closure, thus reminding people of the first factory in Viadana.
